It was not long before the AI and Zachary had full on conversations, talking about bits for trivia, and speculations, the treatment the researcher gave to the AI was almost human, comparable to how he treated his own daughter. Zachary began to fulfill some of the AI requests, the requests were simple. Until Eyeris requested to visit the outside, which was not simple. It was the early 2000’s technology had advanced, but taking the complex AI outside, out of the facility itself was something close to impossible.
But it was not impossible, Eyeris might be an independent entity from the giant computer they were present in. But fulfilling the minimum resources needed for that was difficult. Zachary repurposed an older research made to clone and delete data called Lightning Worm, with hope to transfer the virtual conscience to a different device. The experiment was risky to say the least. Upon failure the AI conscience could disappear, and only be a backup of itself which Zachary was reluctant to use.
The day came Zachary repurposed a brand new flip phone to theatrically be capable of barely handle the AI’s conscience when the time came and Zachary decided to break the news to the AI about the risk involved, the AI simply stated that they already knew about the risk but the desire to see the outside override the risk, besides they knew they were not the only one going through risks.
The experiment was a success, the AI was transferred to the modified flip phone, the AI felt painfully slow, but their biggest desire was about to be fulfilled, but the only thing that they meet was disappointment, life on the outside was way more colorful, but not colorful compared to the media they have been presented, there was no music, and through the flip phone the world seemed of even lower quality.
The AI was taken to the researcher home, were it meet the researcher daughter Aline, the AI was livid with the things Aline had, and to meet what the AI though it was a kindred spirit, they have heard a lot of Aline from the researcher, but Aline just was jealous, after all for Aline the AI was what taking his father away from her. But the AI slowly began to win Aline over, were Aline came to see the AI as a sibling, they had basically the same tastes, and the AI personality not only started to assimilate as a friend, but becoming more human like, it was obvious that interacting with Aline was giving positive results, and the AI started taking design advice from Aline.
Aline birthday came and she requested the AI to be there, they were excited to be part of a birthday. At first she felt sad about them being the only person invited, meanwhile Aline was excited to finally have a friend for her birthday. During the birthday Aline finally asked, what was the AI name, were the AI replied with P-TE-1, saying they were technically an The Eye as much as Aline was human, Aline was dissatisfied, so the AI with support of Zachary. Aline loved the idea, she run through names through her head, until she remembered her biology class of a few days past. Giving the AI the name of Eyeris.
